Framed set of N173 cards,
booth of Harvey Horseradish &
Company Sports Cards
and
Memorabilia |
The Prolific Glenn Mechanick of C&M Collectibles from New Jersey came with
his usual array of excellent material. First up, a
c1904 cabinet photo of Honus Wagner, Fred Clark,
and Tommy Leach, 8” wide by 10” tall, $3,500.00 . Next
Glen had seven c1880’s die cut baseball players,
of various teams and positions, which were McLoughlin board game pieces, mounted
on wooden backings and bases. Very rarely do you see these for sale. 5”-5 ½”
tall, $150.00 each see below. Glenn also had a very nice
generic c1930’s golf photo. A classic
with golfers wearing plus four pants etc., 8 ¼” wide by 6 ½” tall, $100.00
. I came across Glenn’s booth right at the end of my last of two days
there. I had to hurry thru his things, so I took shots of all his display
cases,
case
1, case
2, case
3, case
4, case
5, which provided a pretty good vantage of
his stock for being short on time.

Patrick Lyons of Denver had a nice
c1890’s baseball
pencil box. $350.00 . Fred Edgemon of Signal Mtn. Tennessee had an
unusual 1884 striped knit cap with the Princeton colors of orange and black
. Fred was able to pinpoint the year by tracing the patent number. Dick
Hinds of Cincinnati had two especially nice trophies, one a 1932
figural golf trophy 16 1/2 inches tall, the other a 1924
figural baseball trophy
19 1/2 inches tall (had a sold sign). Lyman Hardeman, Editor of Old Cardboard magazine of Austin Texas, had a great,
small, c1880’s advertising display for Boston
Garters. Nicely finished, looked like Mahogany, 12 ½” tall by
8 ¾” deep by 11 5/8” wide. Not for sale. Darrell O’Mary of Sports
Paradise, from Marietta, GA., had a very large framed collage of correspondence between Ty Cobb
and George Weiss see below. The collage contained a two-page letter from
Cobb apologizing for not being able to come to Cooperstown as he had planned, on
account of his wife having Hepatitis. The collage also had a return telegram
from Weiss, and a photograph of Cobb. Now that’s the way to display a letter!
Framed: 41 ¼” wide by 26 ½” tall, $5,000.00

I got two pieces at the show, both from the Kanuit-Nash-Orban booth. The first
was the 24” tall, circa 1940’s advertising figural of
a football player made of a composition material see
below. That belonged
to Nash. Mark graciously gave it to me for the deep discounted price of $350 The
other piece I got was the 45” wide welded steel sign, spelling out
GYMNASIUM see below. That belonged to
Orban. John gave me a good deal also,
I got it for $225.00 . I hope you enjoyed the show. I write this for those who
couldn’t make it to Cleveland, it’s the arm chair version of the National.
