Painted by a professional artist, this incredible oil painting captures a lively, smiling Pop Warner, wearing a tie and classic V-neck sweater with the Stanford colors of red and white. This great painting
was in excellent condition, with the original frame, and was
painted on thick paperboard. The painting is signed F.H. Fear -
32 - Interestingly, the artist apparently also noted the exact date he painted
it, as the
top part of the backside
reads:
|
“
Pop Warner, famous coach of Stanford,
Painted
by F.H. Fear Sept. 26/32 ” |
Underneath that, obviously after the artist had died, someone elaborated further in red ink with the following:
|
“ Fredrick Henry Fear 1873-1947
Born Cloversville, N.Y. June 14 1873 moved to San Francisco 1888 until 1906 moved to Berkeley
Died Jan 10 1947
Fear worked for many years as a
sign painter for the Coca Cola Co. ” |
Quite a bit of information, he obviously lived thru the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. We could hardly ask for better background information than this. Quite interesting he worked for Coca Cola for many years! Also it’s interesting he lived in Berkeley, home of the University of California, Stanford’s big game rival, yet for some reason painted Stanford’s coach! The painting measures 10 5/8 inches tall X 8 5/8 inches wide, framed.
