It
was hard to choose a poster to exemplify the poster genera. I finally
chose this Pep Cereal poster from my collection because of it's
color and size. My focus is on sports antiques from about 1880's
to 1930's, so this is about as late an era I like.
I
got this from my friend Jerry Director in New Jersey, who I met
thru the old Antique Trader. I think I paid $2,500.00 back
around 1995 as I recall. Jerry has collected so much advertising
for so long, he seems to barely know what he has. I think he
said he came across this in his basement. He mentioned it, and I
said let me see a photo. Jerry never tells me the price till I
see the picture! He hooked me line and sinker on this. I've
never come across another. I've seen the image on the cover of a
magazine, and a contemporary tin.
Posters
are one of the main ingredients of an antique sports display collection,
and there is much to say on them. I look forward to elaborating
fully on the subject soon as I get time.
Detailed
commentary on this fascinating subject of
sports posters is forthcoming, please
