6 1/2" tall Polo Player Toy
THIRD
PICK-UP
Last,
I had seen a very cool German toy figure of a polo player right as I
came in. It was the 6 1/5" tall version, and the only example of
that size I've
seen in person. It was only $125.00, but put it off till I made sure I
didn't need the money for something else. I came back and
got it before I left. I have several of the smaller versions so this will go good in
the middle of them. It's the first toy I've added to my sports toy collection in eons.
I lined it up next to two Vienna bronzes just to see how it would look
since they're about the same size...it's definitely a toy...not a Vienna
bronze! I did pick up one other thing that I considered just a knickknack
at the time, but now at home looks pretty cool..a color print of Hialeah
horserace racetrack.
It's an extreme example of my favorite shape for
pictures, short and wide. Measures 28 3/4" wide by 7 5/8"
tall. I saw one of these once at a National (National Sports Collectors Convention)
and it was money. I saw the price on it at Glendale and almost
laughed...$20.00. I don't know if I've ever seen anything priced $20.00
at Glendale before. Wasn't exactly what I was looking for but for $20.00
I just handed over a bill.

OUT'A
THERE
I
left the show around 1:30PM and went to lunch at The Hat in Pasadena.
Then cruised around to
some of the shops in L.A. like Off the Wall on Melrose. From there I headed to Orange and
had a terrible dinner at
one of my favorite restaurants "Felix's" in old town Orange (Cuban
food).
Martha's
Donuts in Lakewood,
A
Carlton Long Beach Flea Tradition
The next morning I got up late like 7:00AM and headed to Long Beach.
I made my usual stop at Martha's Donuts on Carson in Lakewood, about two
miles from the flea. I usually can sit at the outdoor tables without a
jacket, but it was too cold this time.
I finally shook hands with the
new owners, since Martha sold the place a while back, nice couple. From
there I headed on over to the Flea and met up with my silver guy in the
parking lot where he examined my Bailey plaque. It was the first time a
silver expert examined it and it was and an extremely interesting
session. I'll go into all that a different story.
