If you're new to collecting sports display antiques, this is about as good as auctions get. It's packed with very rare museum quality items you may not see again for a long time.

Lot 2046 , 18 1/2 inch by 15 inch1894 Pittsburgh Base Ball Club Advertising Schedule Poster. -  SOLD FOR $17,511.00

It was a tough call choosing the number one piece, there are so many great things in this auction. The graphics and color however speak for themselves. This same poster was in the April 2005 Robert Edward auction and sold for $15,000.00. It'll be interesting to see what it brings here. It's had some minor restoration, but it's the only known example.

Lot 692 , Circa 1870's Bib Style Baseball Uniform - SOLD FOR $5,576.00 This is the kind of item that'll bring you  to a screeching halt. These bib fronts are incredibly rare. Actually I only recall one other that was in the Halper collection, and it had the consistency of a pajama top. This one looks like a sturdier material. Halper paid $10,000.00 for his back about 16 years ago, and it was just the jersey, no pants. This one's got the pants. There is some staining on the front, but the rest of the condition isn't bad.

Lot 818 , 19th Century Youngstown vs. Akron Football Broadside, 39" x 25" - SOLD FOR $3,461.00 I've seen a few different versions of this, but they're very rare. Leland's had some that were for some deaf teams, about 15 years ago. I know of another that advertises Dennison College vs. Akron Football Club. It's one of the best football posters extant. It's got great graphics, it's in very good condition. Take if from me, early football broadsides are one of my biggest hot buttons, This is about as nice as they come, and it's from Ohio, the very heart of early football country.

Lot 2169 , 1920's Jim Thorpe Game Used Helmet -  SOLD FOR $16,106.00 Interesting story on how and where this was acquired. So Thorpe ran a bar in Nevada ay?

Lot 1659 , 1896 Parker Bros. "Parlor Golf" Complete Game in Original Box, 21" x 14" - SOLD FOR $700.00 Take it from a serious victorian sports board game collector, this is one of the top golf games. I don't even have it (nor do I have room for it) It's a very rare game. I can't even recall the last one I saw..maybe 18 years ago!

Lot 829 , 1926 Cal vs. Stanford "Big Game" Oil Painting, 27" x 17-3/4" - SOLD FOR $4,028.00 One of the best football paintings I've seen, and in great condition.

Lot 2070  , 1912 Boston Garter Advertising Sign with Eddie Collins and Hal Chase, 21" x 11" - SOLD FOR $15,307.00 This is one of the most desirable baseball signs. Rarely do you see them offered. This looks to be the same one that was in the April 2005 Robert Edward auction. It sold for $22,500.00 then. Another example sold in the Mile High Auction last December for $31,704.00 . It'll be interesting what it brings here.

Lot 1835 , U. Pennsylvania  c1900 Complete Game Worn Baseball Uniform - SOLD FOR $847.00 These big name college uniforms don't come up too often. Great display pieces, lots of character.

Lot 2066 , 1913 Joe Jackson Plaster Statue,

13-1/2"- SOLD FOR $1,391.00 Very rare, never seen a painted one quite like this, very tough piece.

Lot 2276 , 1895 Police Gazette "Our Baseball Heroes" Lithograph, 21- 1/2" x 15-1/2" - SOLD FOR $3,425.00 Though not as important as some of the other 19th century baseball prints like the Temple Cup, it's within the boundaries of investment grade baseball art. As Herman Kaufman says, they don't grow on trees. Good solid display material.
