orey Leiby is a full time sports memorabilia dealer from Orwigsburg Pennsylvania (pronounced Lye B, not Lee B). I believe I first met Corey at the 2003 National in Atlantic City. He is one of a small cadre of sports dealers in the country who understand and speak sports antiques from the 19th and early 20th century on a broad scale...not just cards, tickets, and programs...His father was an antiques dealer so he grew up in the business...and growing up in Pennsylvania put him close to the action...He paid his dues combing the Antique markets in Adamstown PA during the flashlight era of the 1980's and 90's (now dried up)...about an hour from where he grew up...Today he's at the pro level and one of the world's foremost dealers of sports antiques...His website is AntiqueAthlete.com.

I asked Corey about his background and how he got into the business and he was kind enough to send the following:

Hi Carlton,
Here are the responses to your questions:

I have been a full time dealer of high quality vintage sports equipment and memorabilia for 22 years. I graduated from college with degrees in small business management and marketing. My father was a full time antique dealer for as long as I can remember. He dealt in a general line of country antiques, painted furniture, textiles, stoneware, etc... However, it was through him that I got a job providing vintage sports memorabilia to Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, etc.. for their window displays in NYC. I did this on the side after graduating from college and working another full time job. To make a long story short, I soon realized that I could make a better living as a vintage sports memorabilia dealer and it was something that I loved!

I grew up in a small town in northeast PA called Hamburg and lived there until I went off to college. Currently I am married and have two awesome sons, ages 11 and 14. My sons and my wife provide purpose for my life more than anything else. I love being a father. I coach my boys in several sports and am very active in many different outdoor activities with them... snow skiing, hunting, fishing, etc...

I am very pleased with the success of my business. I attribute it to simply doing the next right thing. I attempt to offer the finest in quality and condition and always strive to make sure that every customer is pleased whether they have been dealing with me for 20 years or this is there first purchase. I have made many fine friends in the sports memorabilia world and I am grateful to all of them for having a positive impact on my business and life.
