SO
LONG BEACH
Usually
after Long Beach I stop at The Kettle restaurant in Manhattan Beach for a late
breakfast. This time though I stayed late and
just went to King Taco. I first went to a
King Taco when I went to
the Cypres Museum downtown L.A., there's one up the street. It's a 20 chain
outfit in L.A. and an interesting place, huge and very busy...fast food format,
cavernous, bigger
than a McDonalds with plenty of seating. Typically
there are two to three lines 5 deep to put your order
in. I like the Burritos best...tacos are a little small. Very
clean places, clean parking lots too....I always see at least one
security guard walking around, and I seem to recall they're pack'n. Taco Bell is for
gringos, but King
Taco is the real deal. When they ask if you want everything including
the red sauce, be warned...their standard red sauce is hotter than most
Mexican restaurants.
HEAD'N
HOME
And
then it was off for a seven hour drive over the grapevine and thru the
hills back to the bay area. But I was anxious to stop and get on the
internet to research Maurice Day the artist of the Beavers and Bunnies
painting. By the time I got thru L.A. it was dark. I got off some exit
near Magic Mountain and found a Starbucks. I got an eyeful. According to
what I read, Maurice "Jake" Day was one of the Disney's oldest
illustrators who drew Bambi and Dumbo. Bingo, I knew it looked quailty!
So now that I'm home I'm looking further into it to learn more...stay
tuned! At this point we've bonded, I really like this painting now.
And that's a wrap for this
week's Sports Antique of the Week Special feature. Thanks for coming
along, below are shots of the trip.
