he 38th annual 2017 National Sports Collectors Convention was held July 26th-30th at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in the Chicago Illinois suburb of Rosemont. I sat out last years and it was nice to be back...I've had a really good run finding stuff the last two years...Matter fact two weeks before I left for the National I picked up a collection of powerboating memorabilia. I hated to use up firepower right before the National...but it was that strong a collection...story for later but it was Gar Wood and world championship related stuff...Plus another couldn't turn down piece...greatest motorcycle trophy plaque I'd ever seen...c1929 from Italy...so there went more firepower....So by the time I got to the National my horns were pulled in...I knew I couldn't get involved with anything over the top...and darn if it didn't all work out perfect...I found just the right stuff that didn't put me under a bridge...and at just the right prices...and it was all great...as you'll see shortly...

Ok so...about the show...How was it you ask...Well it was sure great for me...but overall I wouldn't give it an "A"...matter fact...the general consensus was it was weak for antique stuff...For my favorite area figurals, it was real weak...Matter fact I can't recall one single Spalding trophy...Advertising signs?...minuscule...The best thing I saw for advertising was a large Spalding Basketball poster that Jon English of Nashville had...priced at $2700.00...It had me as I've been wanting an example of that poster since I passed on one for $1,000.00 about thirty years ago at the old PMA show in San Mateo...Broadsides?...i.e. posters that announce sports events to take place...very few and not one of a recognizable teams or event...Board games?...I think I only saw one Mcloughlin baseball game in Brian Dec's booth...I remember it because it was probably the nicest example of that game I've seen...

All in all it was a very nice show...saw old friends had a good time...And then there was the "Three Bills Room" on Tuesday night across the street at the Embassy Suites...a semi private invitation gathering...of which you'll see a sub feature interspersed with the photos...
